The Honorable Michael V. Dowgin Award for the Standout
Player
Judge Mike
Dowgin, known as "the Truth" to his friends, has been a dominating
rugby player and team leader throughout the 1970’s, 80's , 90's and 2000’s.
At the inaugural New Jersey 7's, Mike played for the Princeton Scottish
side. The Princeton Scottish were was an ensemble of Princeton Legends (in their
own minds) with a passion for rucking and mauling.
This group of tight five players were seeded last and not given much of a
shot. However, in the first game of
the day, the Princeton Scottish took the field with a wild look in their eyes.
On the opening kickoff they drove the ball forward crashing and driving.
With 20 meters to go, the ball made its way out to Mike Dowgin. Mike
stiff-armed one tackler, crashed through two more, cut right around yet another,
and powered his way across the try line for the first score of the game, and the
New Jersey 7's. In honor of the
first score in New Jersey 7's history , the Standout Player of each New
Jersey 7's will be presented the Hon. Michael V. Dowgin Award at the end of the
tournament.
